Summary:
The Sanitation Supervisor supervises, coordinates, and documents activities of team members engaged in duties concerned with sanitation and housekeeping systems in a food processing plant.

Essential Functions:
- Inspects facilities, grounds, and equipment for conformance to Meiji standards and applicable regulations.
- Leads and supports all team members in housekeeping, sanitation, custodial, chemical handling, pest-control, and GMPs as needed.
- Supervises, coordinates, and documents activities of team members engaged in duties concerned with sanitation and housekeeping systems.
- Inspects premises for signs of pest and harborage, food security risks, unsanitary practices/conditions, indications of neglect/ disrepair, and acts with other team members to resolve/ correct.
- Confers with management and production team members on plant sanitation, scheduling, and budget adherence.
- Recommends upgrades/changes in equipment, sanitary design, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, and work practices to improve sanitation standards.
- Identifies and reports inspection results, sanitation, safety, or GMP violations, and takes steps to resolve deficiencies.
- Review production schedules and estimate team member time requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Establishes and documents team member schedules to meet production needs.
- Leads team in preparation of scheduled audits, regulatory visits and other inspections (e.g., Kosher, Organic).
- Encourages team to maintain facility in a state of readiness for SQF, regulatory and other inspections (e.g., Kosher)
- Coordinates on-the-job training for new hires and transferred employees.
- Trains sanitation team members in all required safety requirements and ensures they perform all duties in a safe manner.
- Writes, updates, trains and amends master sanitation schedule, standard sanitation operating procedures (SSOPs) and routine sanitation/ housekeeping requirements.
- Understands and uses Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for all chemicals used.
- Trains team members on potential hazards and required handling of chemicals, tools, equipment, personal protective equipment, and confined space.
- Responsible for leading team in confined space program.
- Ensures sanitation equipment is in proper operating condition, fit for purpose, and team is trained to use safely.
- Evaluate and maintain supplies inventory for use by the sanitation team members (i.e. PPE, GMP/ safety equipment, sanitation tools) as well as all hygiene (i.e. toilet paper, soap, sanitizer, paper towels, housekeeping tools) related supplies necessary in the food plant.
- Meets with outside vendors as appropriate to review new sanitation supplies, personal protective equipment, chemicals, tools, titrations, pest control, etc.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of sanitation department.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
Prior sanitation education is preferred. Three to five years related experience and/or training.
Requirements
- Computer proficiency is required in the following: Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
- Experience in the food industry plant environment with an understanding of manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and write English is necessary for managing chemical safety and required documentation.
- Practical knowledge and application of food safety principles (ex. Regulatory, HACCP, SQF, GMPs, food microbiology)
- Practical knowledge and application of sanitation systems
- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Effective abilities in organizing and deductive thinking
- Able to communicate at any organizational level.
