The Quality Supervisor ensures product quality and compliance with safety, food safety, regulatory, and company standards, oversees quality assurance processes, and leads a team of quality technicians.  Quality Supervisor is responsible for supporting the maintenance and improvement of food safety and quality programs, processes, policies, and procedures throughout the manufacturing plant.  To accomplish this, the supervisor coordinates, coaches, trains, and encourages Quality Technicians in Absolute Safety and works cross-functionally with all organizational departments to maintain food safety and quality systems to support company strategic initiatives.  

Essential Duties:
 
  • Supervise and direct quality assurance technician activities to ensure product quality and compliance with safety, food safety, regulatory, and company standards, oversees quality assurance processes.
  • Provide training and mentorship to quality technicians, setting expectations and performing evaluations to ensure high performance.
  • Manage food safety and quality relevant documentation including timely review, corrective actions as needed, revising existing documents as requested, determining training needs, overseeing distribution processes, maintaining document control database as needed, coordinating document reviews, support document storage, and archiving records as needed.
  • Participate in internal quality audits, food safety inspections, program verification and validation, behavioral safety observations, GMP compliance, and routine inspection programs. 
  • Coordinate auditing schedules, training, qualification and calibration of technicians; generate reports, follow-through with corrective & preventive action assignments are completed, and verify effectiveness of corrections to enable audit closure. 
  • Participate in new product launches by ensuring an effective commercialization process.  Includes conducting food safety/quality risk assessments, participation in planning/execution and securing required samples and data.
  • Champion plant traceability systems and mock recall exercises for ingredients, packaging and finished products.   
  • Conducts activities and coordinates quality technicians to support all food safety and quality systems of the plant including sampling, testing, monitoring, verifying/ validating critical, preventive, and quality controls; inspecting processes and equipment, auditing, records maintenance, and various plans management as needed.
  • Learn and train team members to perform sampling and testing, results reporting, analyzing trends, and coordinating corrective action. 
  • Lead investigations of consumer complaints and in-plant food safety quality incidents (foreign material, allergen cross contact, nonconforming product, etc.) to effectively use RCA CAPA tools to identify root causes to facilitate corrective and preventive actions with plant teams. 
  • Function as a member of food safety teams to support maintenance of Food Safety HACCP Plans, Food Defense and Food Fraud Plans, reviewing and updating flow diagrams, identifying hazards, conducting risk assessments, and conducting program reassessments for continuous improvement. 
  • Identify opportunities and design plans for implementing food safety & quality best practices, improving food safety and quality programs, and utilizing technology to more efficiently collect, analyze, and access data. 
  • Support regulatory, third-party, and customer audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented as necessary.
  • Provide food safety and quality training, as needed, with new hires, quality technicians, and plant employees.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Effective skills in leading, organizing and problem solving.

Education Requirements:

 
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science or related field (i.e. food engineering, chemistry, biology, animal science, microbiology, nutrition science, community health, and agriculture)
  • Two-year degree in relevant field is considered with at least 2 years prior experience
  • Preferred certifications: PCQI, SQF Practitioner, HACCP, Food Defense Coordinator, ASQ
  • Preferred food plant experience in leadership
Computer Skills: 
  • Proficient competency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Preferred skills include modern ERP, SPC software, Genesis, quality management software

Compensation: 

$60,000.00-75,000.00
